The first time I tasted Gin has got to be in one of my Aunt and Uncles G&Ts. I've no idea what age I was when I was first served up one of these, but I've got to give it to them they make a banging G&T. It would have been a good double measure of either Plymouth or Bombay Sapphire over ice, just a touch of tonic and a good wedge of lime, served up on every visit. My first gin cocktail will have been a Hendricks Martini, this was a weekly post dance training stop my friend and I made at a local bar, The Gin Club, back in Manchester. ..I started strong!
First gin cocktail you ever made?My first job in a cocktail bar was as a fresh faced 19 year old, I'd just arrived in South Africa and found a fantastic little bar on Long Street, Cape Town. Thrown in at the deep end, this little gem got packed out as soon as the sun started to set. I can't remember exactly what the first gin cocktail I made was, but if not a Long Island Iced Tea (2007) it was likely to be a fruity number with gin, triple sec and served up in a martini glass.
Favourite gin cocktail at 7pm?The cocktail you'll find me drinking at 7pm would be a Vesper. I love the light and floral lillet blanc with gin. I'm really enjoying trying the different vermouths, aromatised and fortified wines out there at the moment with gin.
Favourite gin cocktail at 10pm?Around 10pm it has got to be a Martinez. By about that time in the evening I need a little sweet pick me up. I like trying this with different gins and styles of gin. A sloe gin martinez is a firm favourite.
Favourite bar in the world?There are two cocktail bars that will always be up there for me, but sadly are no more. The fun I had and the delicious drinks I drank at Socio Rehab, Manchester. I frequented that bar most weekends and must have crossed paths with The Gin Boss, Leon, there in the past. The other is Prohibition, again in Manchester, it was the cocktails they served and the DJs Saturday night playlist that kept me going back for more.
